Pattern Review: Pink Fig Hippy Chick Skirt

Late last month, the illustrious Melanie from Above All Fabric invited me to review a pattern for her (cue SQUEAL).

May I present Pink Fig's Hippy Chick Skirt:

I used Moda's Origin's line (yellow, brown, grey and green...are you kidding me? How can I refuse that?) Mine is the skirt on the right of the above pattern picture...the Bohemian version.

There's a lot of decorative stitching you can't see on the picture. Note: "Decorative Stitching" is just a fancy way of saying "you'll have to rewind your bobbin A BAZILLION TIMES."

The Bohemian skirt, as opposed to the Classic skirt (both are included in the pattern), leaves some of the edges raw so they'll fray after wear, which adds a little extra pizzaz to the skirt.

The pattern was easy to follow, even for a gal like me who tends to "guesstimate" as much as possible. And the skirt is VERY WEARABLE, due to the drop-waist that keeps the bulk of the gathers and ruffles below the waist/hip line.

Visit Melanie's fabulous fabric shop Above All Fabric here, where you can find this fabric, and this pattern.

Hi Julia,

I can't find an email address for you. My name is Melanie and I write a monthly column for Sew, Mama, Sew! You can see my last column here: http://sewmamasew.com/blog2/?p=16537. I am writing a new post this week and was wondering if I could use you photo. Your photo would appear in a section about sewing boho style for women. The photo I'd like to use your hippie chick skirt.

Please let me know if that would be okay. Thank you so much for your consideration. My email address is: asewingjouranl@gmail.com
